Helicopter Crash During Rescue Operation

In a devastating incident in northern Pakistan, five crew members lost their lives when a provincial government helicopter, engaged in a rescue operation, went down due to adverse weather conditions. The Mi-17 helicopter was on a mission to deliver relief supplies to flood-affected regions in Bajaur when it crashed in the Pandiyali area of the Mohmand district, as reported by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

The Chief Minister confirmed that among the deceased were two pilots, as stated by AFP. Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah mentioned that while bad weather was the primary cause of the crash, investigations are underway to determine if other factors contributed to the tragedy.

Independence Day Celebrations Turn Deadly

In a separate incident, Karachi Police apprehended over 90 individuals for engaging in aerial firing during Independence Day festivities, which resulted in fatalities. Reports indicate that police confiscated 68 illegal firearms from the suspects, leading to more than 100 FIRs being filed.

The celebratory events took a grim turn as aerial gunfire resulted in at least three deaths and left 82 others injured throughout the city. The East Zone reported 30 injuries, the West Zone 43, and the South Zone 12. Tragically, among the victims was an eight-year-old girl in Azizabad, who was struck in the head, along with two elderly men in Korangi and Lyari who succumbed to gunshot wounds.
